IVSA-Lyon with Yasmine and Ali, the passionate breeders, and their cute Sloughi dogs To learn more about the Shaarawi Arabians horse stud, click on the following link http://www.shaarawiarabians.com/ |
Later on, they were also able to attend the El Zahraa 17th National Horse Show and 13th International Championships in Cairo where, with the help of the international jury, they learnt to score horses on their beauty marks.
A more medicine-orientated chapter opened with the visit the Faculty of veterinary medicine of Zagazig which can boast of having a department on Fish Disease and Management ! It was followed by a visit to the Equine Disease departement of the Veterinary Serum and Vaccine Reasearch Institute, ‘VSVRI’ Cairo. Our future vets had the privilege to visit the influenza virus and pox virus labs and interesting lectures on emerging diseases or viral diseases causing abortion were also given to our students.
In the same line of thought, the participants visited the Brooke Hospital in Cairo dedicated to working horses and donkeys. The hospital provides free veterinary care and also conducts animal-friendly research for example into eye-abnormalities, or deworming.

Great memories, great visits, great lectures, THANK YOU IVSA-Zagazig for this fabulous workshop and for….

Lyon-Bern Exchange
Lyon-Bern Exchange
Seven students from Lyon had the pleasure to spend 4 amazing days in Bern, Switzerland. They received such a warm welcome from the IVSA-Bern chapter that they quickly became addicted to the city's charms! Whether it be the delicious chocolate of the "Maison Cailler", the adventurous bear cubs playing in the new "Bärengraben" (bear pit), or their modern and very well equipped vet school, the Swiss kept up their reputation for quality !
A couple of weeks later, 4 Bern students came to see what the vet students in Lyon had to offer! Our IVSA team made them discover the Beaujolais region and its wine tasting tradition thanks to M. Chanudet and its fabulous Morgon! A city tour was also organised and the sightseeing got nocturnal at the Musée des Beaux Arts where musicians from the "Orchestre National de Lyon"were playing their notes!
Our first group exchange was a real success and IVSA-Lyon hopes to build on this event and create many more!
IVSA-Lyon was founded in 2009 after two Lyon vet students who had attended an IVSA congress in Istanbul came back delighted by their trip!
IVSA-Lyon was the pioneer IVSA organisation in France and in its first year of existence, was able to send IVSA-Lyon delegates to several IVSA meetings across the world (IVSA summer congress in Poland, IVSA winter symposium in Edinburgh).
It organised its first group exchange with IVSA-Bern in April 2010 and since then, has been sending 'Lyonese' equine lovers to the IVSA workshop on Arabian horses in Egypt, Zagazig last October, and others to the symposium organised by IVSA-Slovenia in January 2011. All of these events were eye-openers to participating students who realised how enjoyable and important it was to meet vets students from other countries!
Very recently, IVSA-Lyon has been hosting the Vet 2011- student event during the World Conference on Veterinary Education which took place in May.
